Slovenian and Croation 2012
We started this website for a 2012 trip with friends in Slovenia and Croatia and a little bit into Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina. On that adventure, we explored the northwest corner of Croatia – the peninsula of Istria and the islands of Cres and Krk by bike. Then we joined a Europe Through the Back Door tour group to see more of the countries of former Yugoslavia.
USA 2016
Fast forward to 2016 and we are a getting older, so look forward to travels in a small RV. The little home on wheels is called a ‘Pleasureway’ and it’s brought us pleasures and some frustrations in learning how to operate the many systems. We can also carry the bikes and go for an occasional spin along the way.

This looks great! Looking forward to following the adventure from LA.
Looks like a great adventure! Are you updating your trip along the way? I am looking forward to see beautiful photos and great stories!
Hi Kimiko,
I plan to update using my new-and-still-mysterious iPad to add some stories after we have some beautiful photos to share! Good to hear from you.
Hope you have a great trip!!! Make sure to bring back souvenirs. 🙂
Malia. We had a long trip in 3 flights to reach Ljubljana,Slovenia today. Tomorrow we’ll start exploring here and rest. We will probably have time for some shopping along the way.
cool!!!!! 🙂 😉
What about the name of our site? So far no one has greeted us by saying Zdavo. More commonly we hear and have used ‘dobra don’ in Slovenia and Croatia. It’s the more polite term which translates to our ‘Good day’. Last month I chose Zdavo from my “linguistic web research”, but it shows that Googling can lead one down the wrong path.
So ‘Zdavo’ is like saying “Yo”?
Maui — Actually we did hear Zdavo used later on. I think it means ‘Hi’, but just not something that they use often. Language can be a barrier to real understanding, but it was fun to see how well we could communicate what was necessary and how the intonations used helped us understand things like — get on the bus, can’t make change from that big amount of money, we’re out of ice!
Annette and Robin, you both look fit and happy. I’ve enjoyed reading your blog. We’re having our FIRST cloudy, cool day here in B’ham. We miss you on the walks/hikes, Annette.
Keep on peddling. Elaine
Posted on incredible, that was a very good read. In coosnuciln, someone who actually thinks and understands what they are blogging about. Quite difficult to find of late, especially on the web . I bookmarked your web blog and will make sure to keep coming back here if this is how you always write. thank you, keep it up! .
Hvala lepa, Annette and Robin. (Thank you.) Your pictures bring back memories of my trip to that area, but without biking. You’ve inspired me to do that also! –Sandy
I envy your travels!
